Bengaluru Man Wins ₹65,000 After Suing PVR, INOX Over Movie Ad Delays

Your time is money—literally! And a Bengaluru man just proved it in court.

A city resident, Abhishek MR, took on major cinema chains and won ₹65,000 in compensation after suing PVR Cinemas, INOX, and BookMyShow for excessive advertisements delaying his movie.

In 2023, Abhishek booked tickets for Sam Bahadur, scheduled for a 4:05 PM start. But instead of the movie, he was forced to sit through 25 minutes of ads, with the screening only beginning at 4:30 PM. Feeling cheated, he approached the consumer court, arguing that his time had been unfairly wasted.

The verdict? The court ruled in his favor, calling the delay an “unfair trade practice” and ordering the cinema chains to compensate him. This decision sets a strong precedent—excessive ad delays in theaters aren’t just frustrating, they could actually be legally challenged.

So, the next time you're stuck watching endless ads before your movie, you might just have a case.
