Bharthana Toll Plaza: India’s Biggest Money-Making Toll at ₹400 Cr!

Did you know India’s highest-earning toll plaza is not in Mumbai or Delhi but in a lesser-known Gujarat village?

Bharthana Toll Plaza, located on NH-48, is India's top-grossing toll collection point, raking in a staggering ₹400 crore annually over the past five years. This toll plaza sits on India’s busiest highway, connecting Delhi to Mumbai, which explains the massive revenue.

Who comes second?

The Shahjahanpur Toll Plaza in Rajasthan, also on NH-48, recorded an annual collection of ₹378 crore, making it the second-highest in India.

How Big Is India’s Toll Collection Game? According to data shared by the Road Transport and Highways Ministry in Parliament, India has 1,063 toll plazas, with 14 of them generating over ₹200 crore annually.

Currently, out of 1.5 lakh km of national highways, about 45,000 km are under toll collection.

Why Has Toll Revenue Doubled?

Toll collections have surged due to:

  • New highways & expressways becoming operational.
  • FASTag adoption eliminating revenue leakages.
  • More vehicles on the road as infrastructure expands.

In fact, India's annual toll revenue doubled from ₹27,504 crore in 2019-20 to ₹55,882 crore last year!

Which State Tops Toll Collection? Among states, Uttar Pradesh leads with ₹22,914 crore from 97 toll plazas in the past five years. Rajasthan follows with ₹20,308 crore from 156 toll plazas.

As India's highway expansion continues, toll collections are set to rise even further!
