Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a scathing attack on the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, while presenting her first budget for the National Capital Territory. The CM called the AAP government "a termite, that weakened Delhi’s economy.”

In her maiden budget speech, Gupta claimed that there were "a lot of differences" between the BJP and the AAP. She said, "You (AAP) made promises only, we fulfil them. You abused the PM, LG, and governments of other states, we will work together. You made 'Sheesh Mahal,' we will build houses for the poor. You installed pot toilets worth lakhs for yourselves, we will make toilets for the people in slum areas."
Terming the budget a historic milestone, CM Gupta stated, “This is a historic day, as this is not just any budget. The people of Delhi and the country are keenly watching how the government, elected with a record mandate, will present its first Budget. This Budget aims to usher in a turnaround for the city and align it with the vision of Viksit Delhi. It seeks to make the capital a confluence of its glorious past and a bright future.”
Criticism of AAP’s Tenure
Taking aim at the AAP-led government’s 10-year rule, Gupta accused it of regressing Delhi’s development. She cited deteriorating roads, a failing drainage system, rising pollution, and financial losses in institutions like the Delhi Jal Board and DTC, remarking, “The previous government acted like a termite, weakening Delhi’s economy.”
Budget Highlights
Unveiling the largest budget in Delhi’s history, CM Gupta emphasised it as a roadmap to transform the city’s future, not just a financial statement. She highlighted its alignment with the principles of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, and PM Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive development—Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas.
First Budget By Rekha Gupta
This Budget is the first presented by a BJP-led government in Delhi in over 26 years, following the party's victory over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in last month’s Assembly elections.
