5 Reasons Why Irrfan Khan From ‘Piku’ Is A Green Flag

Irrfan Khan’s illustrious film career is adorned with some of the most unforgettable performances and richly developed characters. While we love most of the characters the late actor played during his career spanned over 30 years, one that has been particularly etched in our minds for the past decade is Rana Chaudhary from Shoojit Sircar's ‘Piku’ also starring Deepika Pdukone and Amitabh Bachchan. 10 years of 'Piku' 10 years ago, on May 8, 2015, we met Rana and Piku Banerjee from the critically acclaimed comedy-drama ‘Piku’. Be it the songs, the storyline, the cast, location; everything about this movie has been a complete winner.

While many of us can't get enough of this heart warming film, let's take you through the intricacies of Irrfan Khan’s character Rana Chaudhary and why we are convinced that he is the greenest of green flags to ever exist.

5 Reasons Why Rana Chaudhary is the greenest flag

Rana – The Empathetic Man

Rana, a no-nonsense cab company owner gets caught in Piku's chaotic life on a road trip from Delhi to Kolkata. However, instead of being annoyed or judgmental, Rana shows empathy shows empathy and helps them throughout the journey. He listens without offering unsolicited advice and observes without judgment.

No Mansplaining Or Condescending Behaviour

Rana never tries to overshadow Piku or control her decisions. In an era where people often attempt to "fix" each other, Rana takes a step back and respects Piku’s strong personality. Whether it’s her frustrations with her father or her fears regarding commitment, Rana listens intently, offering perspective but never dictates.

A Breath of Fresh Air

While Piku and and her father Bhaskor (played by Amitabh Bachchan) are at a constant tussle throughout the film, Irrfan’s character brings the comic relief. Despite the heavy themes that the film rides on, like caregiving, family dysfunction, and generational conflict Rana’s quick wit and his ability to navigate emotionally draining circumstances with a positive outlook is a pure bliss.

Never Moves Back From Taking A Stand

Rana teaches us that love is not about the big gestures but instead being present in the smallest of moments. On their adventurous road trip when Bhaskor blames his daughter Piku for being late, Rana intervenes and takes a stand for Piku. This was probably one of the moments we all wished to have a partner like Rana, caring, compassionate and never afraid to protest against the wrong. A Modern-Day Gentleman Rana was the perfect modern-day gentleman who challenges toxic masculinity. He is caring but not insistent. His ability to form genuine connections without any pretences or ulterior motives further solidifies his place as a ‘green flag’ in modern cinema.

All in all, Rana Chaudhary from ‘Piku’ is the green flag guy every girl deserves, haina?
