Bollywood is a land of dreams, and often, stars emerge through unexpected turns of events. One such instance involves actress Rhea Chakraborty, who, at one point, was considered for a pivotal role in one of the biggest films of recent times, 'Laal Singh Chaddha'. Directed by Advait Chandan and starring Aamir Khan in the titular role, 'Laal Singh Chaddha' was an official remake of the Oscar-winning film 'Forrest Gump'. The film generated immense buzz even before its release, with much attention paid to its casting choices. However, an interesting revelation from Aamir Khan himself recently shed light on a key moment in the film’s casting process and it will definitely leave you shocked!
Not Kareena Kapoor but Rhea Chakraborty Was The First Choice for 'Laal Singh Chaddha'
Many were surprised when Aamir Khan disclosed that Rhea Chakraborty was actually the first choice for the role of the female lead, which eventually went to Kareena Kapoor Khan. While Kareena’s casting in the film was widely known, the fact that Rhea had initially been considered for the part came as a revelation to many. Aamir Khan, during a session at the Cinevesture International Film Festival, candidly shared that Rhea’s screen test for the film had been “very good.”
Aamir recalled their first meeting and mentioned that he still remembers Rhea’s screen test fondly, describing it as a good one, even though the lead role ultimately went to Kareena Kapoor.
In response, Rhea said: “You had sent me a message. Which I found very, very surprising because I have auditioned for thousands of films but it has never happened that when you are not getting the film when the producer, director or actor messages you and says, ‘Sorry, your audition was great, but the fact is we could not go with you.’ But you had done it and I was really, really shocked. I showed that message to mom, dad, everyone and said, ‘See, I am a good actor. Aamir Khan is saying I'm a good actor.’”
While this moment could have been a major career milestone for the actress, it was Kareena Kapoor Khan who took on the role of 'Rupa'—the love interest of Aamir Khan’s character, Laal Singh. Yet, what makes this story fascinating is the glimpse it provides into Bollywood’s unpredictable nature. Sometimes, timing, circumstances, and even fate play an enormous role in determining the outcome of an actor’s career trajectory.
Despite not being cast in Laal Singh Chaddha, Rhea has remained active in the industry, continuing to work on various projects and forging a path for herself. The actress, known for her roles in films like 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti', 'Half Girlfriend', and 'Jalebi', has managed to stay in the limelight despite facing personal and professional challenges.
