Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has reiterated his allegations regarding the accuracy of the voters’ list, which has become a subject of a growing debate. Speaking in the Lok Sabha Gandhi said that the entire opposition was demanding a detailed discussion on the voter list in the Parliament.
He added, “It has been more than a month since my press conference on the irregularities in the voter list of Maharashtra. But the demands we made to the Election Commission regarding transparency have not been fulfilled till now. The questions remain the same even today.”
Rahul Gandhi also claimed that there’s new evidence of duplicate names in the voter list. He said, “Now, new evidence of duplicate names in the voter list has emerged, raising even more new and serious questions. This discussion is very important to protect the values of democracy and the Constitution.”
Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's statement, AAP MP Sanjay Singh also accused the Election Commission and the central government of misusing government machinery to create fake voters. Singh alleged that this practice had already been observed in states like Maharashtra, Haryana, and Delhi, and now West Bengal was also facing similar issues. He warned that if the electoral process was not fair, it could result in one-party dominance, enabling corruption.
The ruling side has refuted these allegations. Responding to the opposition’s allegations and its demand over discussion on voters' list, Union Minister BL Verma said, "The opposition does not have anything positive to say so they try to raise issues. The opposition should maintain the dignity of the House."
