India's Space Diplomacy Peaks As ISRO Makes Waves Across The Globe And Beyond

India’s space program is soaring to new heights, with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) now playing a key role not only in space exploration but also in global diplomacy. ISRO, which started humbly with rocket parts transported by bicycle, has evolved into a powerhouse in space technology. From launching satellites to collaborating with major space agencies, India is increasingly a critical partner on the world stage.

One of ISRO’s most ambitious projects is the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR), set for launch in March. This high-tech satellite aims to study Earth’s geological changes and help predict natural disasters, a vital tool for global safety. But that’s not all—India is also teaming up with France to launch communication satellites and has joined forces with countries like the US, Israel, and the UAE for various space projects.

After the triumph of Chandrayaan-3, which successfully landed on the moon, India is now working with Japan’s JAXA to explore the moon’s polar regions. Building on the success of Mangalyaan and the Aditya Solar mission, India’s space ambitions are reaching new heights. By 2035, India plans to have its own space station and is eyeing a human mission to the moon by 2040.

India’s space diplomacy is booming, with the country signing cooperation agreements with over 60 countries and five multilateral organizations. Experts note that India is becoming known for its ability to manufacture and launch satellites, making it a go-to partner for nations with smaller space programs. As the global space economy grows, India’s role as a trusted partner and innovative space leader is cemented.

The space industry in India is already worth $8.4 billion, and the government aims to boost this to $44 billion by 2033. Between 2019 and 2024, India launched 163 satellites from various countries. India’s space cooperation extends beyond launches, with growing partnerships in countries like the US, France, Brazil, and more. With these collaborations, India is positioning itself as a dominant force in the future of space exploration.
