"Now we have to go to Russia.": Donald Trump after Ukraine agrees to ceasefire

Ukraine has agreed to the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, contingent on Russia’s approval and reciprocal actions. In exchange, the United States has pledged to resume security assistance to Ukraine and lift the pause on intelligence sharing.

Reacting to the development US President Donald Trump said, "Ukraine ceasefire, just agreed to it a little while ago. Now we have to go to Russia, and hopefully, President Putin will also agree to it... People are being killed in the cities as things explode throughout the cities. We want to get that war over with... That’s a total ceasefire. Ukraine has agreed to it and hopefully Russia will agree... The ceasefire is very important. If we can get Russia to do it, that'll be great."

The announcement follows high-level discussions held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman played a crucial role in facilitating the talks. Trump’s remarks come at a pivotal moment as both sides look to end the ongoing conflict and ensure lasting peace in the region.

Representatives from both Ukraine and the United States celebrated Ukraine’s bravery and underlined their shared commitment to achieving long-term peace. The Ukrainian delegation expressed gratitude to President Trump, the U.S. Congress, and the American people for their continued support in advancing peace efforts.

Discussions also focused on humanitarian efforts, including the exchange of prisoners, the release of civilian detainees, and the return of Ukrainian children who had been forcibly transferred by Russia. Both delegations have committed to beginning formal negotiations for Ukraine’s long-term security, with European partners involved in the peace process.

In an effort to ensure Ukraine's economic stability and future prosperity, both nations are also working towards an agreement to develop Ukraine’s critical mineral resources. This economic cooperation aims to support Ukraine’s growth and enhance its long-term stability in the post-conflict phase.
