US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has praised US President Donald Trump for his leadership in Russia-Ukraine peace talks, stating "the world owes him gratitude" for efforts to end the three-year conflict.
In a recent statement, Rubio lauded Trump’s role in pushing for peace: "Mr. President, first of all, I think the American people should be proud that we have a president promoting peace and the end of conflict on this planet. This is a war that has gone on for three years, as you rightly pointed out, and would have never happened had you been president. But now that it is here, it needs to be brought to an end."
He added, "There is no military solution to this war. It has to end through negotiation, and there is only one leader in the world capable of bringing the two sides to the table—the President of the United States, President Trump. That is what he has done."
He also added,"Even as we speak, we have teams on the ground in Saudi Arabia meeting with the respective sides in the hopes of making progress toward the outcome we all want to see. The country and the world owe you a great debt of gratitude because you are the only leader capable of bringing the two sides together to end this conflict. You have done this despite impediments from other countries and those with different opinions on how it should proceed. Ultimately, the only chance for peace is through the president’s leadership, and you have shown that. We hope today will be one step closer in that direction."
