A faster MacBook Air with a price drop? Apple, are you feeling okay?

A faster MacBook Air with a price drop? Apple, are you feeling okay?

Apple just pulled a move that no one saw coming—they upgraded the MacBook Air with the new M4 chip and actually lowered the price. A new Apple product that costs less than before. Unbelievable, right? But is it actually a good deal? Let’s break down what’s new, what’s staying the same, and whether this is the right time to upgrade.

M4 Chip: More power, more displays, more efficiency

The star of the show here is the M4 chip, bringing better performance and efficiency to Apple’s ultra-thin laptop. Apple claims it’s significantly faster than previous generations, making it an excellent choice for students, professionals, and content creators who need snappy performance on the go.

A major upgrade? Support for two external displays while keeping the MacBook Air’s lid open. For multitaskers, this is a game-changer.

Apple also upgraded the webcam to a 12MP Center Stage camera, improving video calls with AI-assisted framing. But beyond that, the design remains the same—still fanless, with MagSafe charging and Thunderbolt 4 ports.

The real shocker is the price drop

Apple and price cuts? That’s rare.

The 13-inch MacBook Air M4 starts at ₹99,900, while the 15-inch version costs ₹1,24,900 in India—₹15,000 cheaper than last year’s M3 models.

In the US, the base 13-inch MacBook Air is now $999 (down from $1,099), with students getting it for just $899.

For an Apple device, that’s a surprisingly good deal—especially since the base model now comes with 16GB of RAM instead of 8GB.

Is This a Must-Buy?

If you’re still using an Intel-based MacBook or an M1 MacBook Air, this is a no-brainer. The M4 will feel like a massive upgrade, offering better speed, battery life, and multiple display support.

If you have an M2 MacBook Air, it’s a solid upgrade but not essential. The biggest draw is dual-display support, so if that’s important to you, it’s worth considering. Otherwise, performance gains alone may not justify the switch.

And if you just bought an M3 MacBook Air last year? Ouch. The M4 isn’t drastically better, and the price drop makes it even tougher to swallow. Unless you really need the extra features, stick with what you have.

For once, Apple isn’t just slapping in a new chip and charging more. The M4 MacBook Air is faster, has better RAM in the base model, supports multiple displays, and costs less.

If you were waiting for a sign to buy a MacBook Air—this might be it.
