Apple’s Siri is broken, AGAIN… Can’t tell what month it is

Apple’s struggles with Siri are becoming more obvious by the day. After already delaying its Apple Intelligence-integrated Siri upgrade, the company is now under fire for another major embarrassment—Siri can’t even answer what month it is.

Siri’s latest fail leaves users frustrated

The issue was first spotted in a Reddit thread before gaining traction among tech enthusiasts, including John Gruber, a well-known industry writer. Users have reported that when asking Siri, “What month is it?”, the assistant either fails to respond correctly or provides inaccurate dates, like saying it’s Saturday, March 1, 2025, when it clearly isn’t.

This failure comes at a terrible time for Apple, which had promised a massive AI-powered Siri upgrade during WWDC 2024. The new version was supposed to be smarter, more personalised, and better at understanding user intent by pulling contextual information from emails, texts, and photos. Instead, Siri’s inability to handle the most basic queries is fuelling doubts about Apple’s AI progress.

Embarrassing delays & internal discontent

Apple had initially planned to roll out enhanced Siri capabilities this year, but those updates have now been pushed to at least 2025. According to reports, the delays are causing significant frustration within Apple’s AI division. Robby Walker, Apple’s senior director overseeing Siri, recently admitted that the setbacks have been "ugly and embarrassing."

Walker reportedly told Apple’s Siri team that the company announced features too early, well before they were actually ready. This misstep has led to increasing internal frustration and raised concerns about Apple’s ability to compete with rivals like Google and OpenAI, which are pushing the boundaries of AI assistants.

A thorn for Apple

Siri debuted in 2011 as a revolutionary virtual assistant, promising seamless interaction with Apple devices. But nearly 14 years later, it still struggles with basic functionality, while competitors continue to evolve rapidly. The recent blunder only adds to the perception that Apple is falling behind in the AI race, especially as generative AI tools become more advanced.

With the AI-powered Siri update now delayed, users will have to wait even longer to see if Apple can actually deliver on its long-promised improvements—or if Siri will remain the same underwhelming assistant it has been for years.
