Tomodachi Life is finally back! Their latest installment, Living The Dream will hit the Switch in 2026.

During the recent Nintendo Direct showcase, the long-awaited return of the Tomodachi Life series was finally confirmed. Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream is coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2026, marking the first new entry in the franchise since the original game launched on the 3DS back in 2014.

A wacky new life on a tropical island

Like its predecessor, Living The Dream lets players create Mii characters and watch them interact in bizarre and often hilarious ways. This time, the Miis will be living on a tropical island, where even the most mundane moments can turn into pure chaos.

One scene in the trailer showed two Miis in a heated argument, flinging trash at each other, while another featured a Mii sleeping on a bench, dreaming of a giant version of herself asking a question. The game keeps the signature randomness of Tomodachi Life intact but now with sharper visuals, even stranger scenarios, and a brand-new setting.

Fans have been begging for a sequel for years, and now, after more than a decade, their wish has finally been granted. The game’s signature humor is back, and with the Switch’s hardware, Tomodachi Life is now in full high definition. While Nintendo hasn’t revealed all the details yet, longtime players are already hoping for the return of features like the music creator.

A major Nintendo Direct announcement

The original Tomodachi Life became a cult favorite thanks to its unpredictable Mii interactions, StreetPass connectivity, and quirky apartment-living format. While it’s unclear how Living The Dream will evolve beyond the new island setting, fans are already excited to see what Nintendo has in store.

Nintendo saved Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream as the final announcement of this Direct, closing out a show that also featured updates on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokémon Legends Z-A, and the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake. The next big Nintendo showcase is set for April 2, focusing on the highly anticipated Switch 2. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream launching exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in 2026.
