Legendary actor Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, just days before his 90th birthday, leaving behind a timeless legacy in Indian cinema.
Before Dharmendra, heroes were tragic. He changed the game with his charm, Greek-god looks & fearless masculinity. Cinema had a new religion: Dharam.
Greek god, son of the soil, family man, Garam Dharam—Dharmendra fit every title. For six decades, over 300 films, he held audiences in thrall.
Inspired by Dilip Kumar, young Dharmendra from Punjab moved to Mumbai and debuted in Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere (1960) after a 1958 Filmfare win.
He walked miles to meet producers, survived on chana, lived in a garage, and worked for Rs 200—his grit made Dharmendra the icon we know today.
Sholay (1975) – Veeru | Chupke Chupke (1975) – Professor Parimal Tripathi | Seeta Aur Geeta (1972) – Ranjeet | Dharam Veer (1977) – Dharam
He captured hearts off-screen too, marrying Hema Malini and fathering Sunny, Bobby, Esha, and Ahana, becoming a beloved family man.
Dharmendra launched Vijayta Films, introduced sons Sunny and Bobby, served as BJP MP (2004–2009), and inspired stars like Salman Khan.
Even at 89, Dharmendra stayed active, appearing in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) and set to appear posthumously in Ikkis (2025).
