India has faced deadly terror attacks over the past decade, from bombings to ambushes. Here's a look at the incidents and India’s response.
On January 2, 2016, terrorists attacked Pathankot Air Force Station, Punjab. A fierce 3-day battle claimed 11 lives including top army official.
The attack was linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed. India canceled talks with Pakistan, tensions rose, and military base security was strengthened.
On September 18, 2016, terrorists attacked an army base in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 19 soldiers in one of India’s deadliest recent attacks.
In response, India conducted surgical strikes across the LoC on Sept 29, 2016, destroying terror camps in PoK in a major defence shift.
On March 7, 2017, a bomb exploded on the Bhopal–Ujjain Passenger near Jabri, MP, injuring 10 — India’s first ISIS-inspired terror attack.
The NIA arrested members of an ISIS module linked to the blast. In 2024, a special court awarded the death sentence to seven accused terrorists.
On Feb 14, 2019, a suicide bomber hit a CRPF convoy in Pulwama, killing 40 personnel in one of the deadliest attacks in India.
India responded with airstrikes on Balakot terror camps on Feb 26, 2019 — the first cross-border air raid since 1971, sending a strong message.
On June 9, 2024, terrorists attacked a bus of Hindu pilgrims in Reasi, J&K. The bus fell into a gorge, killing 9 and injuring over 40 passengers.
The Resistance Front was held responsible. Security forces launched ops in Reasi, ramping up patrols and tightening checks on infiltration routes.
On April 22, 2025, terrorists killed 26 tourists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, marking India’s deadliest civilian terror attack since 26/11.
India launched Operation Sindoor, destroyed terror camps in Pakistan, paused IWT, rejected visas for Pak nationals, and raised diplomatic pressure.
