Born on July 8, 1972, Sourav Ganguly turns 53 today. “Dada” was a stylish left-hander and one of India’s most fearless cricketing leaders.
1996 – Ganguly scored a majestic 131 on Test debut at Lord’s, announcing his arrival with class and grace.
In 2000, amid match-fixing turmoil, Dada took charge as captain and rebuilt Team India with stars like Sehwag, Bhajji, Yuvraj, Zaheer & Dhoni.
India's historic 326-run chase vs England in the 2002 NatWest Final was capped by Dada’s shirt-waving at Lord’s — a moment etched in cricket history.
Under Ganguly, India won Test matches in Australia, Pakistan, England, and the West Indies. He made India believe they could win anywhere.
Ganguly brought fierce pride to Indian cricket — from smart sledging to making Steve Waugh wait for the toss, his bold leadership stood out.
Nicknamed the "God of the Off-Side", his drives through cover were a treat. Ganguly scored over 18,000 international runs with 38 centuries.
Dropped in 2005, Ganguly made a remarkable comeback in 2006 and even hit his career-best Test score of 239 vs Pakistan in 2007.
Post-retirement, Ganguly became BCCI President and also shone in commentary, leading and speaking with the same boldness off the field.
From fearless captain to off-side artist to BCCI chief — Ganguly's legacy is unmatched. Happy birthday to the man who taught India to fight and win!
