India defeated England by 336 runs in 2nd Test to register their first ever Test victory at Edgbaston— also their biggest away win by runs in history.
India secured their maiden Test win at Edgbaston, ending a winless streak of 8 matches (7 defeats, 1 draw) at the venue after 58 years since 1967.
England’s 336-run loss was their second-biggest defeat to India. They also lost six batters on ducks in the first innings — a rare Test occurrence.
India became the second team in Test history after Australia to aggregate 1,000+ runs and take all 20 wickets in a match.
With this victory, India became the first-ever Asian team to defeat England in a Test match at Edgbaston.
Akash Deep registered the best-ever Test match figures by an Indian in England with 10/187, breaking Chetan Sharma’s 1986 record of 10/188.
At just 25, Shubman Gill broke Gavaskar’s record to become the youngest Indian captain to secure an overseas Test win.
Gill smashed 430 runs, surpassing Kohli’s record for most by an Indian captain and Gavaskar’s for highest match total by an Indian in a single Test.
Gill is the 2nd Indian after Gavaskar with a double ton and century in one Test; first ever to score 250+ and 150+ in a single Test.
With 585 runs in four innings, Gill broke Virat Kohli’s record (449) for most runs by an Indian in their debut series as Test captain.
269 by Shubman Gill is the highest score by an Indian captain, highest by an Indian in England, and highest by an Indian captain in an away Test.
Shubman Gill joined Vijay Hazare, Gavaskar, and Kohli in scoring hundreds in each of his first two Tests as Indian captain.
