Mumbai Indians booked the final playoff spot in IPL 2025 with a dominant 59-run win over Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium.
Suryakumar Yadav played a masterful innings, scoring an unbeaten 73 off 43 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes to anchor MI’s innings on a tricky surface.
Momentum shifted dramatically in the final two overs as Suryakumar and Naman Dhir added 48 runs, lifting MI to a formidable total of 180 for 5.
Delhi Capitals lost Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul early while chasing 181, leaving the rest with a tough task to win the match.
Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah tore through DC’s middle and lower order, picking up three wickets each and sealing a convincing win for Mumbai.
Delhi started IPL 2025 with four consecutive wins but lost momentum, winning just two of their next nine matches & crashing out of playoff contention.
Despite early setbacks, contributions from Ryan Rickelton, Will Jacks, Tilak Varma, and a late blitz from Naman Dhir helped MI post a strong total.
Sameer Rizvi tried to keep DC in the hunt with a fighting 39 off 35 balls, but found little support from the other end as wickets tumbled rapidly.
With their 11th playoff qualification in 18 seasons, Mumbai Indians remain in contention for a top-two finish heading into their final league fixture.
Delhi Capitals will play their final game against Punjab Kings on May 24, while MI will look to finish strong and secure a place in Qualifier 1.
