Starlink is SpaceX’s satellite internet service that uses thousands of small satellites in low Earth orbit — just 550 km above the surface. Because they orbit much closer than traditional satellites, Starlink delivers high-speed internet with ultra-low latency, allowing speeds from 20 Mbps to 250 Mbps and latency as low as 25 milliseconds. Unlike geostationary satellites, Starlink’s dynamic network can shift satellites based on demand.

The real investment lies in the hardware kit — the satellite dish and Wi-Fi router — which may cost ₹20,000–₹35,000. It’s costlier than fiber broadband, but offers something fiber doesn’t — reach, even in deserts, hills, and forests.

Starlink’s entry is more than another broadband option. It’s a digital equalizer. It can bring telemedicine to villages, online classes to Himalayan towns, and internet to disaster zones when mobile towers collapse.
