A powerful storm with rain, gusty winds, and hailstorm hit Delhi at dawn, causing widespread chaos across the national capital.
A woman and her three children died after a tree fell on their home in Najafgarh during the storm, leading to a house collapse.
The Safdarjung station logged 77 mm rain; Lodhi Road saw 78 mm. Several areas experienced waterlogging within hours of the downpour.
Areas like Minto Road, RK Puram, and Khanpur were flooded. Public and private transport was crippled due to blocked roads and submerged vehicles.
Thunderstorms and gusty winds at IGI Airport caused delays, with some flights diverted to Jaipur and Ahmedabad.
The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Delhi, warning of more rain and thunderstorms. Gusty winds of up to 80 kmph are expected.
