Bollywood’s original Angry Young Man, Amitabh Bachchan, continues to prove that age is just a number. At 82, he isn’t just ruling the silver screen—he’s now India’s highest tax-paying celebrity, dethroning Shah Rukh Khan in the 2024-25 fiscal year.
Bachchan has paid a staggering ₹120 crore in taxes this year, marking a 69% increase from last year’s ₹71 crore. This not only sets a new benchmark but also showcases his dominance in the industry. His total earnings for the year? A mind-blowing ₹350 crore, coming from films, brand endorsements, strategic investments, and, of course, Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), the iconic game show he has hosted for two decades.
Last year, Shah Rukh Khan led the tax charts with ₹92 crore paid to the government. However, Bachchan has now surpassed him by almost 30%, solidifying his financial prowess. Other major names on the top taxpayers’ list include Thalapathy Vijay (₹80 crore) and Salman Khan (₹75 crore), proving that the entertainment industry remains a significant contributor to India’s tax revenue.
One of the biggest contributors to Bachchan’s earnings this year was KBC 16, which wrapped up on March 11. Reports suggest he earned an impressive ₹5 crore per episode, making it one of the most lucrative TV hosting gigs in India. Additionally, with Kalki 2 and several high-profile endorsements lined up, his financial dominance is set to continue.
At an age when most are retired, Amitabh Bachchan is still breaking records, setting trends, and proving why he remains the undisputed megastar of Indian cinema.
