If you missed all the biggest stories from the world of entertainment this week, here's your weekly dose of pop culture updates, celebrity news, and new theatre and OTT releases.
Priyanka Chopra’s ‘Krrish 4’ rumours
Rumours are rife that Priyanka Chopra is all set to return to Hindi films with the fourth ‘Krrish’ movie. Amid reports of Priyanka re-joining the Hrithik Roshan franchise, the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ actor posted pictures with Hrithik on Instagram. Saba Azad and Nick Jonas joined the two in what appeared to be a reunion in the U.S., sending rumour mills speculating their onscreen collaboration, into overdrive.
But Priyanka isn’t the only star people are excited to see return, though.
Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor’s new song
Pakistan-based actor Fawad Khan’s fans from India were thrilled to see the video of his new song, ‘Khudaya Ishq’, from the upcoming film ‘Abir Gulaal.’ A romantic movie in which he stars opposite Vaani Kapoor, this is the first time Fawad is working opposite an Indian actor in a movie since ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.’
Bollywood’s festive celebrations and Janhvi’s traditional saree look
It was a festive week in India, with Baisakhi, Poila Boishakh, and numerous other regional celebrations of the Indian solar new year. So, Bollywood stars also celebrated in different ways. Among them was Janhvi Kapoor, who wished everyone a happy Vishu and happy Puthandu with photos of her in classic silk sarees and gold jewels. A nod to her roots, Janhvi’s look was the perfect traditional-wear inspiration for the festive season.
Karan Johar’s clapback at General Dyer’s granddaughter
While we’re on the subject of cultural roots, Akshay Kumar's 'Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh' was making headlines this week. During a promotional event for the film, one of its producers, Karan Johar, was asked about a 2019 video in which General Dyer’s granddaughter called the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre “looters” in front of the descendants of the victims. Karan had some choice words for her: “How ridiculous was she to say that and how dare she? She was calling those thousands of people looters. They were innocent people who conglomerated there,” adding, “General Dyer has said that he only stopped shooting when the bullets ran out, and she went on in that interview to say that he loved India and all kinds of things and how that he had the greatest compassion. What love can you have in your heart when your actions only spoke of hate?”
Upcoming movies and shows to watch
One cannot simply discuss ‘Kesari’ and not broach the subject of the upcoming OTT and theatre releases to check out this weekend.
‘Kesari Chapter 2’ starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday will release in theatres on April 18. It’s about C Sankaran Nair, a lawyer and statesman who protested the British colonialists’ massacre of innocents in Jallianwala Bagh.
When it comes to thrillers, India always has more where that came from, and this weekend is no exception. So, if you’re looking for a suspense-filled movie full of supernatural elements, Tamannaah Bhatia-starrer ‘Odela 2’ will be in theatres from April 17.
Those who wish to stay home and binge-watch a show, Babil Khan and Rasika Dugal’s ‘Logout’ will be streaming on ZEE5 from April 18. About an influencer who loses his phone and digital identity, it’s another film that delves into the dark side of social media, like ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan.’
Those who are fans of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey’s ‘The Last of Us’ will be happy to know that the show’s second season is here. Based on a popular video-game, the series is set in a post-apocalyptic world, and has been streaming on JioHotstar since April 14.
