If you want to know which newly-released film and TV shows to watch this weekend, or know what celebrity gossip you missed, or the pop culture headlines that made waves, here’s a wrap of it all.
A Khan reunion featuring Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir
The biggest Bollywood news this week was the reunion of the three Khans. Sending the internet into a frenzy after being photographed at Aamir Khan’s home this past week, Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir quashed all speculation about any alleged feuds between them.
This sighting of the veteran stars also revived the conspiracy theory that the past rumours of animosity between the three might have been just that: rumours!
But this was not the only Aamir Khan-related headline this week.
Aamir Khan’s budding relationship
Aamir also introduced his partner Gauri Spratt to the media on his birthday, while also asking the paparazzi not to photograph her. The way Aamir was transparent to satiate the curiosity about his personal life, but also protective about his loved ones’ privacy, is proof that Mr. Perfectionist knows how to handle life in the public eye.
Ibrahim Ali Khan’s battle against critics
Ibrahim Ali Khan, however, was in hot water for the opposite. The star kid’s DMs to someone who criticised his acting and his appearance, after his film ‘Nadaaniyan’ was released, went viral online. This incident then raised questions about the constant body-shaming celebrities face, and why the criticism against them is rarely constructive feedback pertaining to their actual work.
Taylor Swift’s professional wins dwarfing gossip about her personal life
One celebrity’s actual work did get recognised this week, when Taylor Swift swept the iHeartRadio Music Awards by winning 9 out of the 10 awards she was nominated for—drowning out all the gossip about her involvement in Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s feud, as well as her relationship with Travis Kelce -- highlighting her talent instead.
Chum Darang on the lack of representation in Bollywood
As far as talent being highlighted goes, actress Chum Darang pointed out how Bollywood’s representation problem prevents many from getting opportunities.
In a BBC interview, she revealed how, despite being from Arunachal Pradesh, she had to play a Chinese woman in ‘Paatal Lok.’ Exposing the lack of authentic casting in Bollywood, this spoke volumes about how limited the roles written for members of minority communities are.
Upcoming movies and shows to watch
When it comes to well-written roles, Oscar-winner ‘Anora’ boasts of several meaty characters. So those who haven’t watched the film yet can now check it out, as it is currently streaming on JioHotstar.
If hard-hitting stories aren’t not on one’s agenda this week, Disney's live action version of ‘Snow White,’ starring Rachel Zegler, is finally coming to cinemas on 21st March after a fair bit of drama and delay.
For those looking for a gritty new show to watch, ‘Khakee: The Bengal Chapter’ is set to start streaming on Netflix from 20th March.
