In an exclusive and engaging panel discussion at ‘The Hollywood Reporter India’s - Women in Entertainment: Power List 2025’, held on March 21st at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai, renowned personalities from the industry came together to share their insights. At the event, Hook had the exclusive opportunity to meet with some stellar women, including Tejasswi Prakash, Aditi Rao Hydari, Tillotama Shome and many more.
The event was also graced by celebrated figures like Kiran Rao, Aditi Rao Hydari, Janhvi Kapoor and Guneet Monga, with author and journalist Anupama Chopra moderating the discussion. The conversations highlighted the importance of authenticity and audience connection in the entertainment industry. Panelists reflected on their careers, discussing the delicate balance between commercial cinema and meaningful content that resonates with a broader audience. The discussion shed light on the challenges women face in a male-dominated industry, emphasizing the need for resilience and composure in the face of criticism.
At the event, Hook had an exclusive chat with actor Malaika Arora for our series - ‘What’s the Question? - Rapid Edition’. The series explores the essence of being a celebrity - the journey to stardom, living under the constant lens of the paparazzi, women in Bollywood, and the impact on the consumers of celebrity content.
Malaika Arora talks about the women who inspire her
Malaika Arora looked stunning in a ‘Baby Yellow Bella Gown’ from the label, Lovers and Friends, for the mega-event. She accessorised her look with minimal diamond earrings and styled her hair in a sleek bun, exuding elegance and grace.
When asked who the most inspiring woman in her life is, Malaika had the most heartwarming answer. She said, “For me, it would definitely be my mother. She has been a constant source of strength and inspiration in my life. I would also say my sister—she is incredibly inspiring in her own way.”
Challenging stereotypes in female representation
When asked about stereotypical female characters she is tired of seeing on screen, Malaika highlighted that “the portrayal of women as constantly needy—always requiring a man’s support to survive or succeed”, needs to change. “That whole narrative needs to change because women are more than capable of standing on their own,” she added.
We also asked the ‘Kaante’ actress how real change can be made in breaking these stereotypes and Malaika insisted that the only way to do it was by setting an example. “It’s not enough to just talk about pushing boundaries—we have to take action and lead by example. Using our voices and being heard is important, but what truly matters is demonstrating change through our own lives,” she quipped.
The actor also mentioned that she personally prefers to live on her own terms, making her own choices without needing validation from anyone.
Malaika’s top shows to watch
So, what’s Malaika watching these days? When asked about one show she would recommend watching, the actor, much like our other interviews, admitted she is smitten by ‘Adolescence’ and the fact that it carries an important message.
She said, “I just started watching a show called ‘Adolescence’, and I really liked it. Though the show revolves around themes of male toxicity, I think it’s an important watch. It sheds light on issues that need to be addressed.”
