The conversations highlighted the importance of authenticity and audience connection in the entertainment industry. Panelists reflected on their careers, discussing the delicate balance between commercial cinema and meaningful content that resonates with a broader audience. The discussion shed light on the challenges women face in a male-dominated industry, emphasizing the need for resilience and composure in the face of criticism.
At the event, Hook had an exclusive chat with actor Tejasswi Prakash for our series - ‘What’s the Question? - Rapid Edition’. The series explores the essence of being a celebrity - the journey to stardom, living under the constant lens of the paparazzi, women in Bollywood, and the impact on the consumers of celebrity content.
Women who inspire Tejasswi Prakash
When asked to give a shout-out to a woman who truly inspires her, Tejasswi found it impossible to name just one. The actor said, “I really love Guneet Monga. I think she is a badass”. She also praised Ekta Kapoor, acknowledging her immense contribution to the industry. “I think she’s brilliant, and she’s somebody who has given me a chance." Adding to her list of inspirations, she also mentioned Shabana Azmi.
Breaking female stereotypes in the industry
When asked about stereotypical female characters she is tired of seeing on screen, Prakash replied, “It’s unfortunate, but if a girl in real life comes from a well-to-do background, she is somehow expected to play the ‘blondie’ in a film. It’s unfair and unfortunate.” Prakash also mentioned that while women are given roles where there's not much meat, she herself has been fortunate to get offered roles with substance.
What Tejasswi is hooked to?
When asked about her current watchlist, the 'Naggin’ actor revealed two shows she is obsessed with. “I am still watching and completely obsessed with 'Laapataa Ladies',” she shared. She also mentioned that she's “recently been watching 'Dabba Cartel'.”
