Dogs are undeniably adorable, but they do come with a fair share of maintenance — vet visits, daily walks, and, of course, bathroom breaks. Enter the TECNO Dynamic 1, a robotic dog that captured attention at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. I was genuinely surprised when TECNO — a brand typically known for budget smartphones — introduced this innovative creation. Inspired by German Shepherds, the Dynamic 1 not only resembles a real dog in appearance but also mimics natural movements. From subtle foot taps to playful prancing and even shaking paws, it delivers a lively canine presence—without the shedding or mess.
At its core is TECNO’s AI Hypersense Fusion System, a sophisticated array of sensors powered by an 8-core ARM CPU, enabling the Dynamic 1 to effectively perceive and interact with its environment. It employs depth cameras, optical and infrared sensors, alongside four microphones for voice command recognition. Remarkably, it responds to voice commands and approaches its owner with enthusiasm, although building a rapport takes some time — much like a real pet.
While this robot dog is unlikely to replace a living companion anytime soon, it presents an appealing option for allergy sufferers or fans of futuristic technology. Compared to Boston Dynamics’ Spot, which feels more industrial, TECNO’s offering is designed for the living room.
The Dynamic 1 offers approximately 90 minutes of playtime on its 15,000 mAh battery, complemented by a battery-swapping feature to minimize downtime. As for availability in India, TECNO has yet to provide details. Nonetheless, witnessing this technology firsthand suggests that robotic pets may be closer to everyday life than anticipated. Moreover, the technology underpinning Dynamic 1 could inspire more responsive and intuitive interactions in future smartphones, surpassing current AI assistants.
For now, the Dynamic 1 stands as a charming and intriguing glimpse into the future of robotic companionship. And honestly, it’s hard not to be impressed.
