At least 90 Palestinians were killed in one of the heaviest Israeli bombardments in northern Gaza City on Monday.
The Israeli forces struck a seaside cafe, a school, and attacked a food distribution centre and a hospital, a day after issuing mass evacuation orders.
The attack on Al-Baqa cafe alone claimed 41 lives, including women, children and a local journalist, and left dozens wounded, according to Al Jazeera.
Al-Baqa cafe is frequented by activists, journalists, and local residents for internet access and a place to charge their phones.
The Israeli military also bombed the Yafa school, which was reportedly sheltering hundreds of displaced Palestinians.
The Israeli military did not comment on the civilian casualties, but it said that its forces targeted Hamas operatives in northern Gaza, including command and control centres.
They claimed that the operation was carried out after taking steps to mitigate the risk of harming civilians.
Gaza's Government Media Office decried the Israeli attack, calling it a “systematic crime” against the Palestinian enclave’s health system.
The latest attack comes ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled visit to Washington on July 7.
This marks Netanyahu’s third visit to the White House since President Donald Trump returned to office in January 2025.
Even though Trump has been clamouring for a ceasefire, there has been no let-up in the attacks by the Israeli forces.
