Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma were granted a divorce by the Mumbai Family Court on Thursday, March 20, 2025, ending their marriage that began in December 2020. The couple, separated since June 2022, filed a joint divorce petition by mutual consent on February 5, 2025.

The Bombay High Court stepped in on Wednesday, March 19, waiving the six-month cooling-off period under the Hindu Marriage Act and ordering the Family Court to issue the decree by Thursday, citing Chahal’s imminent Indian Premier League (IPL) schedule.

Chahal was spotted wearing a black T-shirt that read, "Be your own sugar daddy."

The IPL 2025 season begins March 22, with Chahal, a key spinner for Punjab Kings, set to play his opener on March 25. The High Court overruled the Family Court’s February 20 refusal to bypass the cooling-off period, which had noted Chahal’s partial payment of Rs 2.37 crore out of a Rs 4.75 crore alimony settlement with Verma, the rest due post-divorce.

Despite a counselor’s report of incomplete mediation, the High Court deemed the terms compliant, as the second installment hinged on the decree.

Chahal, spotted outside the court wearing a bold "Be Your Own Sugar Daddy" T-shirt, drew attention with the cryptic message, hinting at his mindset post-divorce.

Represented by advocate Nitin Gupta, the couple argued their prolonged separation justified the waiver. The High Court agreed, ensuring Chahal’s availability for Punjab Kings, who signed him for Rs 18 crore at the 2025 auction.

The divorce concludes a union once adored by fans, with Verma, a dentist and dancer, and Chahal, 34, parting amicably. As Chahal gears up for IPL, where Punjab Kings eye a strong start, the swift legal resolution aligns his personal closure with professional focus.
