A Ugandan coffee initiative is helping women take control of their finances by offering better pay to the female farmers as compared to their male counterparts.
Coffee, Uganda's top export, is largely produced by women farmers. Despite that, female farmers have had little control over the profits made from the sales. An initiative in the Sironko region is working to change that.
This initiative has also led to a consequent reduction in gender-based violence in the community.
