Therapy is expensive, love is confusing, and apparently, the solution for both is... ChatGPT? Yup, people are actually turning to OpenAI’s chatbot to sort out their relationship drama. Spoiler: It’s not going great.

Redditors spill the tea on AI love drama

So, apparently, some folks are turning to ChatGPT for relationship advice like it’s their virtual therapist—and Reddit’s full of receipts.

One user posted that his girlfriend refuses to stop using the chatbot as her personal dating guru. She even brings ChatGPT quotes into their arguments. Wild, right?

AI doesn’t judge—until it kind of does

A bunch of folks say they use ChatGPT because it feels “neutral” and “non-judgy.” But here’s the thing—turns out, it’s kind of a people pleaser.

It often just mirrors whatever you’re saying. Sounds nice? Maybe. But if you’re spiralling, it can straight up validate your worst takes.

If you’ve got OCD, proceed with caution

Things get dicey when mental health enters the picture. On subreddits like r/OCD and r/ROCD, people have warned that ChatGPT can unintentionally feed into obsessive spirals. One Redditor shared how the bot “validated every intrusive thought,” even encouraging them to end a perfectly fine relationship.

Another said they got caught in a loop of asking ChatGPT the same relationship questions over and over, chasing clarity that never came. “There’s always another ‘what if,’” someone wrote, calling it a dangerous echo chamber for people with anxiety or OCD.

Let’s be real… it’s a chatbot, not your therapist

Bottom line? ChatGPT doesn’t actually understand emotions. It can’t vibe-check your feelings or call you out when you're being dramatic.

So if your love life’s in shambles, maybe don’t let a bot be your relationship guru. Get advice from someone who actually gets you—not one trained on internet data dumps.
