Delhi Metro has become a hub for content creators. Many creators, both from Delhi and outside, can often be seen making Instagram Reels inside metros and metro stations. And more often than not, these videos garner millions of views.

Reels & the Metro twist

Tons of creators have been turning trains into their own personal studios. From romantic clips to Get-Ready-With-Me (GRWM) videos, there’s a range of content that’s being created on the wheels or within Delhi Metro station premises.

Their success is encouraging more people to jump on the Metro bandwagon, literally. But in case you are also feeling inspired, here’s the plot twist.

The ban on Reels

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has banned filming videos or dance clips, basically Reels, inside trains and stations. What’s their rationale? DMRC wants to stop the chaos so that commuters don’t get inconvenienced. Basically, they want commuting in Delhi Metro to be more relaxed.

Anuj Dayal, principal executive director, corporate communications at DMRC, said that the move has been taken to ensure that fellow passengers are not inconvenienced due to such activity.

Announcements across network

DMRC is rolling out the new rules across the whole network and expects them to be fully in place by the end of the week. In fact, announcements to this effect are already being made on all the trains in the Delhi Metro network.

The announcement, being made in both Hindi and English, says: “Filming reels, dance videos or any other such activities are strictly prohibited.” This is in addition to the existing announcements about not eating inside metro trains or sitting on the floor inside coaches.

What if you don’t follow the rule?

So, what will happen if you ignore this? According to reports, you could face penalties for “creating a nuisance.” DMRC officials say that even though the Metro Railways Act, 2002, does not mention “reels,” it has provisions related to creating a nuisance, and those could be used against erring content creators.

Yet another effort...

Now, this is not the first time Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has tried to crack down on social media content creators. In fact, last year DMRC had asked its flying squad, which is in charge of keeping a check on men entering women’s compartments, to also prevent people from shooting videos for Reels.

However, that push didn’t yield the desired results. That’s why the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is making yet another effort, with renewed vigour, to put a stop to this content creation craze inside Metro trains and station premises.
