In an industry that thrives on constant visibility, many Indian celebrities are now seeking the exact opposite—privacy. Over the past few years many celebrities have bought homes and shifted abroad, to escape the endless scrutiny they face back home. Whether it’s for security, mental peace, or simply a break from the chaos, the message is loud and clear—privacy is the new luxury.
Power couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli are among the first high-profile names to have shifted base. The duo quietly moved out of India and now reside in London. While they continue to travel back and forth for work, their decision to raise their daughter Vamika and son Akaay away from the limelight seems clear.
Rajkumar Sharma, Virat Kohli's childhood coach confirmed this in an interview with Dainik Jagran: “Yes, Virat plans to move to London with his children and wife, Anushka Sharma. He is going to be leaving India and shifting very soon. However, right now, Kohli is spending most of his time with his family apart from cricket."
The news went viral in late 2024.
Actor Sonam Kapoor and her husband Anand Ahuja, too, spend most of their time in the U.K., far from the buzzing cameras. In fact, Sonam even gave a glimpse into her beautiful London home in an Architectural Digest video.
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor have purchased a new property at The St Regis Marsa Arabia Island, The Pearl, Doha, Qatar. At a press event hosted by Alfardan Group, Saif revealed that he loves how safe Qatar is, and called it a 'home away from home.'
He said, "Think of a holiday home or a second home. There are a few things I think of. One is that it’s not very far away and it’s easily accessible. And then the other thing is, the most important thing is that it’s very safe and it feels very good to be there. And the concept of an island within an island is also very luxurious and beautiful, and it’s just a really lovely place to live. And the feeling you get when you’re there is the important thing, and the views, and the food, and the kind of lifestyle, and the pace of living, and these are a few of the things that led to my decision."
For many stars there is a strong desire to lead a more grounded life, away from flashing cameras. Be it the constant social media trolling, paparazzi culture, and toxic online commentary, even stepping out can be a task for celebs.
What we’re witnessing is a quiet exodus—not born out of disdain for the country, but driven by the need for boundaries, safety, and peace of mind.
