The gaming world is buzzing after fresh rumours suggested that Grand Theft Auto VI might hit shelves with a $100 price tag or roughly ₹10,000 in India. While that number might sound steep, the team behind Rockstar’s blockbuster franchise seems confident that the game’s scale, production quality, and long-term updates justify it.
Jay Klaitz, the actor who voiced Lester Crest in GTA V, recently spoke about the extensive process that goes into creating a Grand Theft Auto title. He explained that GTA V involved an intensive motion-capture process in New York studios on Long Island, where actors performed full-body scenes like Lester exiting a car or walking through hallways built on scaled sets. Klaitz said such a process takes “years and years and years,” hinting that GTA VI would have gone through an even more ambitious production.
According to him, these games aren’t made overnight. The sheer amount of performance capture, voice acting, writing, design, and post-launch work makes the production cycle for Rockstar titles one of the longest in the industry.
Klaitz supported the argument that a $100 price tag isn’t unreasonable for GTA VI, considering the monumental effort and resources poured into it. He compared it to buying “multiple games in one,” pointing out that each GTA release evolves over time through continuous updates and new content. With GTA V, Rockstar sustained years of post-launch work, including expansions for GTA Online, which kept players engaged long after release.
He believes the same will hold true for GTA VI, which will likely receive long-term support, expansions, and downloadable content. Essentially, the upfront cost might feel higher, but the game’s lasting value and massive scope could balance it out for most players.
Despite his support for Rockstar’s pricing philosophy, Klaitz also acknowledged the importance of keeping games accessible. He expressed that while the work justifies the price, affordability matters for fans worldwide who might find $100 (or ₹10,000) hard to justify.
Rockstar’s history with GTA Online shows how the studio tends to stretch one title over many years, offering evolving worlds and gameplay experiences without frequent sequels. With GTA VI expected to release on May 26, 2026, for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, followed by a PC version later, the studio seems ready to continue that tradition — giving players not just a game, but an evolving experience that could last the better part of a decade.
