The Washington Sundar-to-CSK buzz has officially been put to rest. For weeks, fans speculated whether the talented all-rounder would switch sides ahead of IPL 2025. But now, it's confirmed - Gujarat Titans are holding on to their man. Reports suggest that GT has taken a firm decision not to trade Washington Sundar to Chennai Super Kings, despite interest from the five-time IPL champions.

The call, interestingly, came straight from the top. GT head coach Ashish Nehra is said to have personally vetoed the trade. CSK was reportedly on the lookout for a spin-bowling all-rounder, especially after R Ashwin announced his IPL retirement. Washington, with his tidy off-spin and ability to chip in with the bat, would’ve been an ideal fit. But Gujarat clearly values him too much to let go.

Sundar’s Recent Form Makes Him a Hot Property

One reason GT might have doubled down on keeping Sundar is his recent form. In a match against Australia not too long ago, he smashed a fiery 49 runs off just 23 balls — a knock that reminded everyone of what he’s capable of with the bat. It's not every day you find a player who can bowl tight overs in the middle and also swing games with the bat down the order.

In a format like the IPL, where the margins are razor-thin, players who can contribute in both departments are absolute gold. GT seems to understand that - and after that explosive performance, Sundar’s value has only gone up. It’s no surprise that they weren’t ready to lose him, even to a team like CSK.

CSK Left Searching for Plan B

For CSK, this comes as a bit of a setback. They’re in the middle of a transitional phase, and finding the right balance in their squad post-Ashwin is going to be crucial. A player like Sundar could’ve slotted in seamlessly. But with the door shut by Gujarat, they’ll now have to look elsewhere.

The IPL auction is still a few months away, and a lot can change. But for now, Washington Sundar is staying put - and GT fans have every reason to celebrate.
