Bhaderwah (J&K): Amidst heavy snowfall and temperatures dropping below -5°C, Indian Army personnel are patrolling the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir's Bhaderwah district to ensure security.

Location and Geography

Bhaderwah, also known as Bhadarwah Valley, is a town, tehsil, and sub-district in the Doda district of Jammu Division, Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated in the Middle Himalayas and features predominantly mountainous terrain. The geographical coordinates of Bhaderwah are 32°58'48"N and 75°42'55"E.

The town is located 206 km northeast of Jammu, 90 km south of Kishtwar, 36 km east of Doda, 150 km northwest of Chamba, and 115 km north of Basholi. Its landscape consists of small valleys drained by the Neeru River and its tributaries, with elevations ranging from 850m near Pul-Doda to 4,343.5m at Kaplas Peak.

Strategic Significance

Bhaderwah holds strategic importance due to its location between Jammu, Kashmir, and the Chamba-Dalhousie region of Himachal Pradesh. It is approximately 185 km from Jammu City, 250 km from Kashmir, and 140 km from Chamba.

The region's varied topography and climate contribute to its rich biodiversity, making it a habitat for various species. Often called "Chhotta Kashmir" due to its resemblance to the Kashmir Valley, Bhaderwah remains a sensitive area, with Indian Army patrols ensuring security, particularly in snow-covered regions.
