As Mumbai gears up for Ganesh Chaturthi, the spotlight is once again on the city’s richest Ganesh pandal, the GSB Seva Mandal.
The community association has announced that it has taken a staggering insurance cover worth ₹474.46 crore for its five-day Ganpati festival this year.
A Glittering Idol Adorned with Gold and Silver
The grandeur of the GSB Seva Mandal idol is unmatched. The idol is decorated with more than 69 kilograms of gold ornaments, over 336 kilograms of silver, and countless precious offerings donated by devotees. Such opulence has earned the mandal the title of India’s richest Ganesh mandal.
Breaking Down the ₹475 Crore Cover
Of the massive insurance cover, ₹67.03 crore has been earmarked exclusively for the idol’s gold, silver, and jewellery.
The biggest portion, ₹375 crore, is reserved as personal accident insurance for volunteers, priests, cooks, footwear stall workers, valets, and security guards.
In addition, ₹30 crore has been allocated under public liability cover, which safeguards the pandal, stadium, and the thousands of devotees who gather for darshan. The policy also extends to fire and special peril cover, protecting the furniture, fixtures, digital assets, and other materials at the venue.
More Than Just Grandeur: Social Contributions
Beyond its gold and silver, the GSB Seva Mandal prides itself on giving back to society.
Each year, the Mandal supports weaker sections of the community, especially in the field of education, ensuring that opportunities reach those who need them most.
Mumbai’s Ganeshotsav: A Blend of Faith and Security
Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai is celebrated with unmatched devotion, and pandals like Lalbaugcha Raja and Mumbaicha Raja draw massive crowds.
Yet, the GSB Seva Mandal stands apart, not only for the opulence of its idol but also for the meticulous planning and foresight that goes into ensuring safety.
With a record-breaking insurance cover of ₹474.46 crore, the GSB Seva Mandal reinforces its position as a symbol of both faith and responsibility. As thousands throng King’s Circle in Sion to witness the celebrations, the Mandal ensures that tradition, grandeur, and safety go hand in hand.
