Some things in life are guaranteed: death, taxes, and India losing tosses.

Because once again, the Men in Blue have managed the unthinkable, lose yet another toss. That’s five matches on this tour and five tosses gone. Even the coin must be wondering what’s going on.
Surya’s ‘Pooja’ Joke Doesn’t Sound Like a Joke Anymore
Right after the toss, Suryakumar Yadav jokingly gestured that it's time to get some pooja done to ward off the bad omen, and perhaps help India finally win a toss.

Looking at the numbers, maybe he was onto something. India’s toss luck has been so bad, even statisticians are running out of ways to explain it.
The Toss Record Nobody Wanted
In ODIs, India have already set a record no one would ever want, 18 consecutive tosses lost, the longest streak in world cricket.
The last time India won a toss in an ODI was during the 2023 World Cup. To put it in perspective, the odds of losing 18 tosses in a row are 0.00038%, and yet, somehow, India made it happen.
Gill’s Bad Luck Continues
Test & ODI Captain Shubman Gill hasn’t had much help from the coin either. Out of his 11 matches as skipper, he’s lost the toss 10 times.
India briefly broke the streak during the Asia Cup under Surya’s captaincy, but they’re now back to square one, five straight losses again.
Time to Call the Pandit?
At this point, fans have stopped waiting for surprises. Whether India bat or bowl first, it now depends on what the opposition wants.
Maybe Surya was right after all. Forget new strategies or coin tricks, a pooja might actually be the only option.
