The US Federal Trade Commission is taking social media giant, Meta, to court over its alleged monopolistic control over the personal social networking market. The FTC's case rests not only on its alleged overarching control over the social media space but also on the so-called measures taken by it to crush competition.

If identified as operating an illegal monopoly, the company owning Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads could be split up.
