Israel and Hamas have agreed on the first phase of the US-brokered Gaza ceasefire deal.

Announcing the breakthrough in a post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump declared that all of the hostages will be released “very soon”. Furthermore, he added that Israel will withdraw their troops to an “agreed upon line”.

UK PM Starmer bats for India’s inclusion in UNSC

Shifting focus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his UK counterpart, Sir Keir Starmer, during the latter’s first visit to India. PMs Modi and Starmer jointly addressed the CEO Summit in Mumbai where they highlighted the importance of India-UK partnership.

Notably, Starmer declared that he wants to see India take its “rightful place” in the UN Security Council.

Sresan Pharma owner arrested in Coldrif cough syrup case

In other news, G Ranganathan, the 75-year-old owner of Coldrif cough syrup maker Sresan Pharma has been arrested.

Reports suggest that a 7-member team from the Madhya Pradesh police arrested Ranganathan around midnight from his apartment in Kodambakkam, Chennai. Furthermore, he is expected to be taken to Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh, where most of the children died after allegedly consuming the cough syrup.

Supreme Court Bar Association terminates Rakesh Kishore’s membership

Moving on, the Supreme Court Bar Association terminated the temporary membership of Rakesh Kishore, the advocate caught for lobbing a shoe at India’s Chief Justice, BR Gavai. The SCBA termed his actions on October 6 during court proceedings as “grave misconduct”.

The SCBA’s move comes days after the Bar Council of India (BCI) ordered Kishore’s suspension. Additionally, the BCI also barred him from appearing, pleading, or practising in any court, tribunal, or authority in India.

Bangladesh issues arrest warrants issued against ousted PM Hasina

And finally, Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against ousted Prime minister Sheikh Hasina and several others.

The charges relate to crimes against humanity in alleged cases of enforced disappearances during her Awami League regime.
