American pop star Katy Perry will join Blue Origin's historic NS-31 mission, the company’s first all-female crewed flight. The flight will last about 11 minutes, crossing the Kármán line (the boundary of space) and providing the space crew with approximately four minutes of weightlessness.
The Crew
Alongside Katy Perry, the crew includes Lauren Sánchez, a journalist and pilot, Gayle King, a television anchor on CBS, Amanda Nguyen, civil rights activist, Aisha Bowe, aerospace engineer, and Kerianne Flynn, a film producer. These women were chosen for their leadership in various fields and their ability to inspire future generations, especially hoping to inspire young girls interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Blue Origin is looking at using this mission to highlight the contributions of different women to the space industry.

Ahead of the flight, Katy Perry gave fans an exclusive look at her space capsule. In a video she has posted to her official Instagram account, Katy Perry shared her excitement for the mission. In the video, she showed her personal seat inside the capsule, which was labeled with her name. She also revealed her call sign for the mission which is, "Feather.During an interview with AP news, Katy Perry shared her thoughts and excitement on the mission saying,” I am really excited about the engineering of it all. I am excited to learn more about STEM and just the math about what it takes to accomplish this type of thing.” She further added,” I have always been interested in astrophysics and interested in astronomy and astrology and the stars.”
