Madvi Hidma, one of the most wanted Maoist leaders, was gunned down in a joint operation on the Chhattisgarh-Andhra border early on Tuesday morning.
Hidma, alias Santosh, was linked to some of the deadliest insurgency attacks in recent history. Experts say his death lands a big blow to the outlawed CPI (Maoist) faction.
Andhra Pradesh Police chief Harish Kumar Gupta added that a search operation was underway for weapons. Police are also trying to verify the identities of others killed in the operation.
Red Fort blast co-conspirator sent to NIA custody
Delhi’s Patiala House Court sent Jasir Bilal Wani, the co-conspirator and close aide of alleged bomber -- Umar Nabi -- to NIA custody for 10 days.
A purported video of Umar Nabi has also surfaced on social media. In it, he is heard talking about “martyrdom operations” and “suicide bombing”. The 1-minute-20-second long video is being verified by the Delhi Police, amongst others.

And finally, the UN Security Council voted to adopt a US-drafted resolution endorsing President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza. It also authorised an international stabilisation force for the Palestinian enclave.
The UN resolution is seen as vital to legitimising a transitional governance body, and reassuring countries that are considering sending troops to Gaza.
