When Mihir died

‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ was led by Mihir (Amar Upadhyay) and Tulsi (Smriti Irani), portrayed as the ideal couple of the Virani household. But the show took a dramatic turn when Mihir’s character was killed off—leaving fans shocked and Tulsi’s world shattered. The twist hit so hard that viewers actually protested outside Balaji Telefilms’ office, even pelting stones.

Mihir Virani: Replaced thrice

Mihir’s character in 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' was portrayed by three actors Amar Upadhyay, Inder Kumar, and, eventually, Ronit Roy. After Amar’s exit, Inder Kumar stepped in, thanks to a dramatic plastic surgery twist. But audiences weren’t buying it; they rejected the new Mihir outright. Due to the backlash, Inder was soon replaced by Ronit Roy, who not only won over viewers but also went on to become the definitive Mihir, forever etched in the memory of the show’s fans.

When Mihir broke Tulis’s heart

Mihir and Tulsi were hailed as the ideal couple in Indian television history so much so that audiences practically worshipped them. But hearts broke across the country when Mihir cheated on Tulsi with his former flame, Mandira. Fans were shocked and outraged, unable to accept that the once-perfect Mihir could betray Tulsi, the epitome of grace and virtue. Tulsi’s fierce mother-in-law, Savita, ends up saving her life when she foils Meera and Mandira’s deadly plan to kill Tulsi in an accident. In a dramatic twist, Savita takes the hit herself and is left paralysed. Her strength, however, doesn’t fade. In a heart-wrenching moment, Savita asks Tulsi to end her suffering by unplugging her ventilator. The emotional dilemma shook viewers, as the once-strong matriarch made the ultimate sacrifice to protect her family, leaving a lasting impact on the show's legacy.
