In a recent podcast with Lex Fridman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined transformative governance reforms that have reshaped India’s administrative landscape. A key highlight was the removal of 10 crore fake beneficiaries from welfare schemes through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, saving an impressive ₹3 lakh crore. This initiative ensures subsidies and benefits reach the intended recipients directly, minimizing leakages and enhancing transparency. Launched by the Indian government, DBT transfers funds straight into beneficiaries’ bank accounts, a move that has revolutionized welfare distribution and bolstered financial inclusion, as seen with schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.

Modi also emphasized the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal, a 100% government-owned platform facilitating public procurement. Since its inception in 2016, GeM has streamlined purchases for government departments, PSUs, and local bodies, reducing corruption and ensuring cost-efficiency through tools like e-bidding and reverse auctions. This digital marketplace has not only saved billions but also empowered MSMEs, aligning with Modi’s vision of making India a hub of entrepreneurship under initiatives like Make in India.

Additionally, Modi’s administration has scrapped 1,500 obsolete laws and over 45,000 compliances, simplifying governance and fostering a business-friendly environment. These reforms reflect his commitment to a supply-driven development model, as articulated in programs like the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, aimed at grassroots transformation.
