At just 23 years old, Sushant Mishra has already experienced more IPL auctions than matches. But that could finally change in 2026. The young left-arm pacer from Ranchi was picked up by Rajasthan Royals for ₹90 lakh in the mini-auction — a move that could prove to be one of the smartest under-the-radar buys this season.
Mishra isn’t a new name in India’s cricketing circles. He was part of the Indian squad in the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup, where he impressed with 7 wickets in 5 matches, including a memorable three-wicket haul against Pakistan. His ability to swing the ball and maintain control under pressure made him stand out in a team loaded with talent.
His domestic journey has been equally promising. In the 2020–21 Ranji Trophy season, Mishra took 16 wickets in just 9 innings, showcasing his ability to thrive in longer formats. However, it was his recent form in the shortest format that turned heads. Playing for Jharkhand in the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he emerged as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 22 wickets in 11 games, maintaining an economy rate just under 9. His performances played a key role in Jharkhand lifting the title.
Despite being in IPL setups before — as a net bowler with RCB in 2020, a replacement pick for SRH in 2022, and later bought for ₹2.2 crore by Gujarat Titans in 2024 — Mishra has yet to make his IPL debut. Each time, he was close, but not quite in the final XI.
Now, with Rajasthan Royals, the timing feels different. The franchise has a history of backing emerging talent and giving young players genuine opportunities. Mishra’s left-arm angle adds variety to their bowling lineup, and his recent T20 form suggests he’s ready for the big stage.
More than just another name in the squad, Sushant Mishra represents the kind of talent that can quietly turn into a match-winner — someone who’s waited long enough, worked consistently, and is finally in the right place at the right time.
If he gets his chance this season, don’t be surprised if he makes it count — big time.
