OpenAI, the company that basically runs your assignment-writing life, just dropped the biggest festive season offer: ChatGPT Go is free for all users in India for one full year.

This isn't some marketing gimmick or a free trial; it's a full-on loot deal.

OpenAI launched the ChatGPT Go back in August, exclusively in India (The service later expanded to Indonesia before most recently launching in 16 new Asian countries earlier this month).

Priced at a wallet-friendly ₹399 per month, it was designed as a bridge, perfect for students and hustling professionals who found the main ₹1,600 'Plus' plan a bit too ‘zyaada’. Turns out, the plan was a blockbuster hit.

Although it still struggled to build a massive paid subscriber base in India, the company still saw more than 29 million downloads in 90 days leading up to August, generating around $3.6 million. We showed them we’re serious about AI, and they showed us the love right back.

But let’s be real, competition is lit. With Google (Gemini) making big moves and Perplexity partnering up with Airtel to give out free premium access, the battle to penetrate the Indian AI market got intense.

With over 700 million smartphone users and over one billion internet subscribers, India becomes a huge market. After all, it is also the second-largest user base for ChatGPT globally.

The Chronology of the Ultimate Flex

The official announcement landed on October 28th, confirming the rumours. This whole year-long free access, which unlocks premium features like extended access to GPT-5, higher limits on Image Generation, and the ability to upload and analyze more files (bye-bye, boring data analysis!), is starting from November 4th.

The timing is far from coincidence. November 4th is also the date of OpenAI's first-ever DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru. This promotion is basically a massive, year-long welcome gift to celebrate their deepening commitment to the 'India-first' strategy.

Now, if you're an existing ₹399 subscriber, not to worry; you automatically get 12 extra months added to your account for free. If you’re a new user, you just need to sign up during the promotional window starting November 4th.

So, ditch that "Nahi mai nahi manta" meme for now. This news is real, and it’s a power-up you don't want to miss. Go claim your free year and get back to making your assignments look like they were written by an absolute genius(You still have to go through an AI detection test by the way).
