There can be too much of a good thing and the Canary Islands are a recent example. Bent under the weight of unsustainable tourism, both the local economy and ecosystem are facing serious threats.

Social media trends have only added fuel to the fire with more and more tourists thronging to get that coveted selfie at many of the popular local spots.

Local people have now taken to the streets to demand sustainable tourism.
