The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has submitted its preliminary report on the Air India AI-171 crash to the government. Reportedly, the AAIB has only shared findings from the black box and has not drawn any conclusions yet. The London-bound Air India flight crashed in Ahmedabad on 12 June, just seconds after take-off. A total of 275 people, including 241 on board, were killed in the crash.

Language row: MNS leaders detained

Several leaders and workers of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena were detained by police on Tuesday. The action came ahead of a planned protest rally in Mira Bhayander. MNS leaders were organising a counter-protest against locals rallying over the slapping of a shopkeeper for not speaking in Marathi.Defending the police action, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that while permission had been granted for the rally, the MNS insisted on a specific route that posed law and order concerns.

Fadnavis reacts to Dubey’s comments

Fadnavis also responded to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s remarks on the language issue in the state. Calling the comments inappropriate, the Chief Minister said they risked creating confusion. Dubey, without naming anyone, had challenged “the big boss” to step outside Maharashtra, warning them of a severe thrashing.

Close to India deal: Trump

US President Donald Trump has reiterated that India and the United States are close to finalising a trade deal. This follows reports that the two countries may strike a “mini-deal”, while broader negotiations remain stuck on sectors such as agriculture and dairy. It also comes as the US issues letters to 14 countries, including Japan and South Korea, about higher tariffs coming into effect from August 1.

Flat day for Dalal Street
