India has got a new Vice President. NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan was elected as the country’s 15th Vice President, defeating the INDIA bloc’s nominee, former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy, by a huge margin.
Radhakrishnan secured 452 of the 767 total votes, while Reddy managed 300. Fifteen votes were declared invalid.
Trump and PM Modi signal easing of trade tensions
US President Donald Trump hinted at a possible thaw in Indo-US trade ties in a post on Truth Social. He said both nations were “continuing negotiations to address the trade barriers” and expressed his intent to speak with his “good friend” Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Responding to the post, PM Modi said he too looked forward to speaking with Trump to secure “a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people.”
Israel launches strikes on Hamas in Qatar
Six people were killed after Israel launched what it called “a surgical precision strike” targeting the Palestinian militant group Hamas’ leadership in Doha, Qatar.
Hamas confirmed its top leaders survived the strike but said five members, including the son of Khalil al-Hayya ,Hamas’ Gaza leader and a top aide, were killed.
Poland intercepts Russian drones in its airspace
Poland scrambled fighter jets to intercept Russian drones that entered its airspace — the first such incident since the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
In response, Poland shut down four airports temporarily and issued safety warnings. Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on X that a military operation was underway, with Polish forces deploying weapons against the drones.
Macron names Sébastien Lecornu as new French Prime Minister
French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu as the country’s new Prime Minister.
The move is considered a political gamble, with analysts suggesting it could deepen divides and leave Macron’s minority government increasingly dependent on the far right in parliament.
