Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, today pointed out the absence of any mention of the Maha Kumbh stampede victims in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in Parliament.
Interacting with media persons outside Parliament, Rahul Gandhi said, “I support what the Prime Minister said—Kumbh is a part of our tradition, history, and culture. Our only concern is that the PM did not offer tribute to those who lost their lives during Kumbh.”
The Congress leader, who is an MP from UP’s Raebareli, also talked about concerns over unemployment and stated, “Kumbh holds great significance to the public, but the youth who participated also have another expectation from the PM—employment. The Prime Minister should also address the issue of jobs.”
PM on Maha Kumbh in Parliament
Earlier in the day, the PM addressed Parliament and extended his gratitude to the people of India, Uttar Pradesh, and Prayagraj for their role in ensuring the success of the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
The PM said, "I stand here to speak about Prayagraj's Maha Kumbh. I congratulate the crores of countrymen whose efforts made this grand event a success. Many people contributed to the successful organisation of the Maha Kumbh. I salute everyone from the government and society who participated in the preparations. I also extend my gratitude to the devotees from across the country, the people of Uttar Pradesh, and especially the residents of Prayagraj."
PM Modi also talked about what he called “a national awakening” in the Maha Kumbh. He said, “I emphasised the importance of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' from the Red Fort. The entire world saw India's grandeur in the form of Maha Kumbh... We witnessed a national awakening in the Maha Kumbh, which would inspire new achievements... This also gave a befitting reply to those who doubt our strength."
