The Supreme Court ordered the Election Commission of India to accept Aadhaar as the ‘12th document’ for voters to establish their proof of identity ahead of the November assembly elections in poll-bound Bihar.

The ruling paves the way for lakhs of disenfranchised voters to be included in the revised voters list. However, the court clarified that Aadhaar is not proof of citizenship and authorities remain entitled to verify its authenticity before accepting it.

Nepal Prime Minister Oli resigns amid anti-corruption protests

Nepal Prime Minister K-P Sharma Oli resigned earlier today as anti-corruption protests led by Gen-Z activists continued for the second consecutive day.

Oli said he stepped down “to facilitate a solution to the problem, and help resolve it politically.” The decision follows the government’s revocation of its social media ban, imposed amid unrest. So far, 19 lives have been lost and over 400 people injured in the violent protests.

French PM Bayrou ousted after confidence vote defeat

French President Emmanuel Macron is now searching for his fifth prime minister in less than two years.

Centre-right Prime Minister Francois Bayrou was ousted after losing a parliamentary confidence vote by 364-194. Opposition parties had united against his unpopular plans for budget tightening. Bayrou is expected to formally resign later today.

Israel launches crackdown after deadly Jerusalem attack

Israeli forces stormed towns and villages in the occupied West Bank following a deadly attack at a bus stop in East Jerusalem, where two gunmen opened fire, killing six people.

Israel ordered the demolition of the two gunmen’s homes and will revoke the work permits of hundreds of their fellow villagers, describing it as “a deterrent to future attacks.” Tensions remain high in the region amid fears of further escalation.
