Can a single restaurant earn ₹100 crore per month? For many of us, this comes as a bewildering amount. However, author and socialite Shobhaa De says it is true. She recently spoke about a restaurant in Mumbai that, according to her, is clocking such mind-boggling revenue.

De’s take on Bastian At The Top

In a recent conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt on her podcast, De talked about the success of Shilpa Shetty's fine-dining restaurant, Bastian At The Top. De said that she even went to this ultra-luxury restaurant in Mumbai’s Dadar to see for herself.

According to De, every day Bastian At The Top has two seatings of 700 people each. That takes the total to 1,400 guests per night. Most of these people, she added, arrive at the restaurant in luxury cars such as Aston Martins. Also, each table, as per De, spends in lakhs in a single sitting.

Even if we take a conservative estimate, sticking to the lower side, this translates to around ₹15,000–20,000 per person. Now, extrapolating that for 1,400 guests a day, it totals almost ₹2–3 crore per day. If you do the maths further, that’s roughly ₹100 crore in a month.

Bastian: From Bandra to Bengaluru

A little about Bastian now. The chain of fine-dining restaurants is co-owned by Shilpa Shetty, who partnered with restaurateur Ranjit Bindra, founder of the Bastian brand, in 2019.

While the original Bandra outlet of Bastian in Mumbai has now shut, the brand is expanding its footprint across various parts of Mumbai and beyond the city as well.

Mumbai’s upscale dining hub

Bastian At The Top, which is the most popular outlet currently, opened in 2023. The rooftop restaurant is located on the 48th floor of Kohinoor Square in Dadar, Mumbai. It has become a popular spot for its panoramic views and upscale dining experience.

Just a few weeks ago, Shilpa Shetty also inaugurated the Goa outlet of the brand. The restaurant chain also operates an outlet in Bengaluru called Bastian Garden City, set in an opulent city-centre bungalow. The outlet in Pune is called Bastian Empire. It features a Cappadocia-inspired entrance, rustic cobblestone flooring, and a wabi-sabi aesthetic.

New Juhu outlet, Ammakai in Bandra

Shilpa Shetty has also announced that Bastian is opening a new restaurant in Mumbai called the Bastian Beach Club. The restaurant will open in the upscale Juhu neighbourhood.

Meanwhile, Bandra Bastian, where the brand’s journey began, has now shut down. Shilpa Shetty has announced that the Bandra restaurant is giving way to a new establishment called AMMAKAI, which will serve South Indian Mangalorean cuisine.
